AMY'S TOP 3 TIPS FOR A BETTER BRAIN
Updated: Jul 17
Our chiropractor Dr Amy Norman has a special interest in neuro-rehabilitation and loves to keep up to date with the latest and greatest management strategies for her patients. Is it possible to take something that is very complicated like our brain and simplify some principles?
There are three things ALL of our cells need to function well. Oxygen, fuel and correct activation. With that in mind, here is one thing that can be done for each of those categories to improve our brain health.
You would think that something that we do automatically could be such an issue for people but it is! With our lifestyles, technology, commuting and postural changes there is more than enough ways for us to not be getting all the oxygen we should be. Working on ways to increase oxygenation can be done in a multitude of ways. Deep breathing exercises, exercise and fixing our upper back and rib biomechanics will definitely make a difference.
The saying “you are what you eat” does have some merit in this case but there are some faults in this quote as well. Our food is our main fuel and if our cells don't get what it requires to perform its job how can we expect it to perform at its peak? However, sometimes there are things that we may be lacking that is out of our control when in comes to our food supply. A quick example is magnesium deficiencies due to the decrease of its natural presence in our soil. There are many things to consider with getting the correct fuel and make sure you get some further management strategies if needed.
GET A SOFTWARE UPDATE
The previous two requirements for cells seem some what easy and logical to interpret. So what does correct activation even mean? It means that every cell has preferences with what it needs to activate and work correctly. Your brain and body need to talk to each other to get the most out of life. If you have an impairment with one or the other, you are on the back foot. Did you know adjustments are the only thing that talks to your brain in a certain way? We often call it a software update for the brain. Sometimes you don't even feel like you need a software update but generally speaking, it is for your best interest to be on top of it. Maintenance with chiropractic care isn't just about your body, it is also about your brain.
We hope we have sparked a little interest in reading this. Any questions and Dr Amy would be more than happy to throw some more trivia your way.
Take care of your body and your brain so it can take care of you.
