Dry Needling - Musculoskeletal Acupuncture
Dry needling is a form of treatment that is also know as intramuscular manual stimulation, or intramuscular needling.
It involves the insertion of a filoment needle into a myofascial trigger point with the intention to release tightness and promote healing by stimulating a micro-inflammatory response.
This style of needling differs from Chinese Acupuncture as the intention and philosophy is different. The intention of this technique is to restore correct biomechanics of the anatomy treated whereas Chinese Acupuncturists may place the needle in a different area for the same condition.

Common conditions that may respond well to dry needling include:
-
Tennis and Golfers elbow
-
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
-
De Quervain's Tenosynovitis
-
Neck Pain
-
Lower back Pain
-
Knee Pain
-
Hip Pain
-
Plantar Fasciitis

Dry Needling FAQ's!
What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique where fine, sterile needles are inserted into tight muscles or “trigger points.” This helps release tension, reduce pain, and improve movement. At our Hurstville clinic, it’s often used for back, neck, and sports-related muscle pain.

How is dry needling different from acupuncture?
While both use thin needles, acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and energy pathways. Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based treatment that targets muscular trigger points to reduce pain and restore function.

What conditions can dry needling help with?
Dry needling can help with muscle tension, headaches, carpal tunnel, tennis and golfer's elbow, shoulder pain, lower back pain, sciatica, and sports injuries. Many patients in Hurstville use it to relieve chronic tightness and speed up recovery. We also use dry needling to manage tight forearms and elbow injuries.

Does dry needling hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief muscle twitch or mild ache. Some soreness may follow for a day, but it usually settles quickly and is a sign the muscle is releasing.
Is dry needling safe?
Yes. At our Hurstville clinic, dry needling is performed by trained practitioners using sterile, single-use needles. Side effects are usually minor, such as temporary soreness or light bruising.

Can dry needling be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. We often combine dry needling with chiropractic care, therapeutic ultrasound, and exercise rehabilitation to achieve the best results for our patients.
